Our Core Program
In creating the potential future leaders, Bina Antarbudaya starts the journey from the selection process. Bina Antarbudaya conducts selection process for the participants going on the programs based on their merits. Selected students go through four stages of highly competitive selection, as there are over 9,000 applicants while the number of students to be selected is very limited. The three stages of selection process are conducted at the chapter level and the final stage at the national level.
In preparing Indonesian exchange students for their intercultural sojourn, Bina Antarbudaya also conducts a pre-departure orientation for each of the program, in Jakarta. The orientation facilitates the students with some intercultural knowledge and practical adaptation skills. Similar orientation is also conducted for each group of foreign students arriving in Indonesia. The orientation serves as a breathing stage for the students after their long journey. It also serves as language training and discussion forum on various aspects of Indonesian life.
Orientations are not only provided to the students, but also to the host families who will host the students, as well as the natural parents of the departing Indonesian students. Like the students, host and natural families also have some hopes and concerns. In the orientations, intercultural knowledge and its applications are shared. They also discuss with former host families/natural parents of students from the previous years.
Intercultural exchange and learning programs provide people with personal growth experiences that will continue for their lifetimes. Through the support of a trusted network of families, educators, volunteers, staff and students, AFS helps to build a global community based on intercultural connections that positively affect the world. The long-term goal of Bina Antarbudaya is to build Future Leaders with high cross cultural empathy and fluency, in their respective fields of endeavour, who able to elevate the nobility and well being of the Indonesians and humankind.
